Dear ALCCRF Trustees,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for my PhD scholarship and your support of our project “Genes underpinning predisposition to childhood cancer”. This research study would not be possible without your funding.

We have been examining the DNA of childhood cancer patients that are suspected of a genetic component in their development of cancer. These include siblings diagnosed with cancer, or individuals with two cancer diagnoses. In the first year of this project we have discovered some interesting results which we hope will contribute to a greater understanding of the causes of childhood cancer. These results have been submitted in the form of an abstract to the upcoming International Symposium on Mutation in the Genome (Variant Detection) conference to be held in Spain in June 2017, and we just learned today that this abstract has been accepted for presentation (please see attached abstract).

I feel very fortunate to be able to dedicate my time to this study, and really believe the outcome will make a difference in the lives of those families tragically affected by childhood cancer.

I have attached a copy of my 2016 University of Sydney annual progress review and look forward to your continued support.

Kind regards,

Dianne Sylvester
